Tottenham Hotspur fans are even more excited for a future with Manchester City signings Omar Marmoush and Savio together, and there is still hope that another winger will come, because even though Cody Gakpo is close to Manchester City, that could still open up a track to one more upgrade in Iliman Ndiaye after his breakout 2025/26 Premier League campaign with Everton.
But part of the reason why Tottenham supporters are buzzing even more for Marmoush and Savio together is the fact that the current crop of forwards has been beyond awful. Richarlison is out the door, most likely, after a Matchday 1 disaster class against Brentford, but young left winger Mathys Tel was arguably worse on Matchday 2 against Newcastle United.
He lost the ball every time he got it, constantly slowed down attacks, and played the game as if he did not have two brain cells to rub together. It was a stark contrast from his incredibly impressive preseason matches, but, well, being great in the preseason and playing well against the likes of Hoffenheim is not the same as doing well against real Premier League competition.
Mathys Tel and Mikey Moore aren't doing enough
Mikey Moore, who had two awful misses on Matchday 1 in the loss to Brentford, has not been much better, and while Tottenham fans are wondering if Tel is an even worse long term ploy than Moore, the young England international was not exactly a standout in the preseason either, except for that one game against Hoffenheim in which he turned in two Tel assists for goals.
So far in the 2026/27 Premier League season, Moore and Tel have not taken advantage of their opportunities, and they are getting the answers to their questions from Tottenham Hotspur and Roberto De Zerbi all wrong.
Instead of emphatically answering yes to the question, are you ready to play a key role for Tottenham? Tel and Moore look more like they belong outside the team on loan, and while that is exactly what should happen to Moore, if Koln are even interested with Said El Mala set to stick around and already scoring a crucial goal in the opener for the Billy Goats, Tel is most likely sticking around.
No matter what happens, Tottenham are going to need to see more out of these two. They have so much long term upside, but they are not developing well, especially not Tel. There are flashes, but with more pressure on younger players, Tottenham's bright wingers are not meeting expectations - and it's a good thing Spurs signed Savio and Omar Marmoush when they did.
