Roberto De Zerbi wasted little time in asserting the significance of the summer transfer window for Spurs after he'd guided the club to safety on the final day of the Premier League season.
"We have 10, 11, 12 players who are good enough to stay – good enough as players and especially people. Then we have to complete the squad with the first-level players because we suffer too much," the Italian commented.
That set the tone for what has already a busy summer in N17, with Jan Paul van Hecke joining free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi at the club. We've emerged as the protagonists in rumour mills, boasting the ambition of a club that's forgotten it's suffered back-to-back 17th-place finishes and was on the cusp of the apocalypse as recently as May.
Such amnesia, combined with De Zerbi's influence, has thrust Spurs in the race for two star Premier League midfielders. Our potential outlay when it's all said and done could be mammoth, and the signing we've made at the goalkeeper position has further outlined De Zerbi's transfer priorities.
Spurs given themselves license to spend big in midfield

Spurs clearly have money to spend this summer. The Lewis family is out to ensure that 2025/26 is never repeated, and they're going to back De Zerbi in a big way, with the Italian garnering immense power after working a minor miracle.
The extent of our appeasement may well know no bounds, and that could become an issue. For now, though, supporters are excited about the unrelenting dopamine hits that an unexpected piece of transfer news supplies.
Martin Dúbravka's addition as backup goalkeeper didn't exactly get the juices flowing, but the move points towards imminent big splurges. With Guglielmo Vicario on his way out, Spurs could've signed a legitimate contender for the No. 1 role to compete with Antonín Kinsky. However, by saving money on adding free agent Dúbravka, backing Kinsky in the process, Spurs have loosened the purse strings for their alternative pursuits.
We are delighted to announce the signing of Martin Dubravka ✍️

No cash will be splashed on a Bart Verbruggen or Robin Roefs. Not even a James Trafford.
Having sorted out the defence, De Zerbi is moving onto Tottenham's midfield. A reported cash injection from ENIC has allowed the Italian to let loose, and if he has his way, Spurs could end up spending upwards of £170m on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
The Italian's presence has given us a route into such pursuits, with both players having more lucrative suitors. However, Spurs are willing to overpay the odds to bring both to N17 and completely reshape De Zerbi's engine room.
Getting deals for those two over the line is now the club's priority, with Fernandes seemingly close. Then, I'm sure we'll get to sorting out that perilous frontline, which requires a serious makeover.
