Man City have made it clear what Tottenham need to do to sign Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur are still seemingly mulling over a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho, with the Cityzens refusing to budge regarding their lofty valuation of the player.

There have been signs this summer of Spurs acting with the ruthlessness of a serious club, having just outworked Manchester United to the signature of Mateus Fernandes. The Lilywhites are sending a guaranteed £85m West Ham United's way, and will reportedly make the young midfielder their highest-paid player.

That's until Sandro Tonali comes along, of course.

The days of Daniel Levy's frugality are over, and although some may be weary about the club committing to some horrific pieces of business, it's worth noting that we were still shelling out plenty with little reward towards the end of Levy's tenure. We just weren't paying the players astronomical wages in the process.

The Lewis family is willing to completely alter the club's wage structure in a bid to restore Spurs to the Premier League's summit. After reshaping the defence, midfield targets are being chased vigorously. Next up is an offensive revolution, and perhaps that's when we'll see our Savinho pursuit re-enliven.

Tottenham are prepared to overpay this summer. That's what's required to attract players with more lucrative suitors on paper after enduring consecutive 17th-place finishes.

And Man City will force Spurs to spend too much to sign Savinho. There have been contrasting reports as to what the Cityzens want for the Brazilian this summer, but the latest from the Daily Mail (via Daily Hotspur) suggests they're demanding at least £60m.

Given what we've seen with Fernandes and, to a lesser extent, Jan Paul van Hecke, there has to be some conflict within the club regarding our pursuit of the Brazilian. We were linked with him last summer, and if this was a player Roberto De Zerbi desperately wanted, I think he'd be a Tottenham man by now.

The 22-year-old had a tough 2025/26 season, unaided by an injury he sustained in pre-season, but his debut campaign at City was impressive. Remember, beyond the days of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sané, it was tough for Pep Guardiola's wingers to be productive. They often served an alternative purpose, whether that be ball retention or attracting attention away from Erling Haaland.

Savinho would raise the technical level of Tottenham's attack, offer craft in one-on-one situations and playmaking abilities from the touchline. He's adept off both flanks, and has proven to be impactful as a traditional winger off the left, hugging the flank and delivering crosses from the byline.

You'd back De Zerbi to eke out the Brazilian's samba talent, and it's worth noting that the winger market isn't laden with home-run hitters.

After Enzo Maresca was officially unveiled as Guardiola's successor, there's an expectation that City's summer can finally get rolling. We may be subject to a Savinho update soon.
