The reviews young Tottenham center back Luka Vuskovic is getting to start his senior career as a regular starter are incredible. Beyond the "Air Vuskovic" moniker for his ridiculous aerial prowess defensively, the Croatian teenager is getting effusive praise from all corners of the Bundelsiga, as not just Hamburg supporters are taking notice of the player.
Vuskovic, based on his last three starts, is already a Bundesliga Player of the Season candidate, as only the Bayern Munich attacking trio boast a higher WhoScored rating than Vuskovic. And they benefit from not having to face themselves, whereas if you took out the low rating from Vuskovic's Bundesliga debut against the Bavarians, then only literal Ballon d'Or candidate Harry Kane would be rated higher.
Tottenham's loan sensation isn't the first Spurs star to get his start in the Bundesliga with Hamburg, as arguably the club's greatest legend, Son Heung-min, was a star for the northern Bundesliga side before increasing his profile further at Bayer Leverkusen - and then eventually becoming an icon in the Premier League for Tottenham.
Although Son once won an award for being the best newcomer in the Hinrunde, the South Korean superstar was never actually named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month. That's the honor Vuskovic literally just picked up in September of this season.
Luka Vuskovic is performing at the level of elite Premier League players
Better yet, it's a true Rookie of the Month award, because it was the first full month of the season and the first time Vuskovic started regularly for Hamburg. So he is already the best rookie in the Bundesliga, but that's the least impressive of his accomplishments despite it already being a huge deal, as the 18-year-old is already playing up to the level of players like Michael Olise and Luis Diaz.
Those guys were two of the best forwards in the Premier League and are having an easier time in that Bayern side. So if Vuskovic is playing as well as them for lowly Hamburg as a center back, then, well, he's already pretty close to being ready for superstardom in the English top flight with Tottenham.
Obviously, Son was a sensational player for Hamburg in his maiden campaign of 2010/2011, but he only had eight starts for the full season. Vuskovic has four in a month, so based on early returns, he is so brilliant that he's exceeding the career start that Son had at the same club. Watch out, world.
