There is a lot of intense transfer speculation surrounding Tottenham Hotspur center back Luka Vuskovic after Brighton have requested a 30 million pound transfer for the Croatian international, using him as leverage because they obviously know how badly Roberto De Zerbi wants to reunite with their center back Jan Paul van Hecke.
It does not help at all that Spurs have made it obvious thus far that they will back De Zerbi's wishes no matter what, as the former Brighton manager was given the ultimate golden ticket at the club after saving Spurs from Premier League relegation, which, while understandable, may not be conducive to the best transfer window.
Spurs supporters are on edge, desperately hoping that Johan Lange and Vinai Venkatesham do not do their worst and sell one of European football's biggest gems at any position for around half the price of Van Hecke, a player older by more than five years and with just one year left on his contract anyway.
Luka Vuskovic is about to battle Harry Kane in front of the whole world
So far, it does not appear that Tottenham Hotspur have any intention of letting Luka Vuskovic go for just 30 million pounds, Spurs, as an organization, have not exactly left their fan base with the benefit of the doubt over the years.
But the timeline of what is next could make the transfer saga more interesting. In mere days, Vuskovic and the Croatia national team take on the world's most followed and scrutinized national team, England, on Wednesday night in their Group L opener.
The battle will pit Vuskovic and the Croatia defense against the best striker in the world and early Ballon d'Or favorite Harry Kane, who will be on a mission to finally bring it home and win his first non domestic trophy of his otherwise illustrious footballing career.
If Vuskovic can shut Kane and the star studded England attack down, he will have put a feather in his cap far beyond the nicknames of Air Vuskovic, the votes from his peers as one of the best players in the Bundesliga season, and all the praise from German legends like Lothar Matthaus. Beating England and dominating at an individual level would put Vuskovic on the map like never before.
These kinds of games in the World Cup are worth millions upon millions, especially for top young talents who have captured the attention of analysts but not of the mainstream. If Vuskovic steps into the mainstream limelight, Spurs can quote 90 million pounds - not 30 million pounds - for the Hamburg star.
