Tottenham Hotspur center midfielder Lucas Bergvall has just handed in a fresh transfer request to the club, upset over his lack of playing time last season both under Thomas Frank for the majority of the 2025/26 campaign and then later under Roberto De Zerbi, who was leaning on the veteran players to save Spurs from Premier League relegation.
Bergvall has valid reasons for wanting out. Frank really mistreated him by not making him any part of his team or playing him way out of position when he was in the lineup. But at the same time, Bergvall seems to be freaking out over the big names Roberto De Zerbi wants to bring in to strengthen the base of the midfield, which maybe shows a lack of mindset in terms of wanting to compete with other stars in order to make it at a big club like Tottenham.
At the end of the day, though, the 20 year old is right that he needs playing time, and while a loan deal would actually then make the most sense for both him and fellow disgruntled Spurs gem Luka Vuskovic, the talk of a permanent transfer is in the air now.
Powerhouse club is now after Lucas Bergvall
According to the Daily Mail's Simon Jones, while Aston Villa are still interested in nabbing the Swedish international from Tottenham Hotspur, arch London rivals Chelsea are actually no longer interested and looking at other options. But the most intriguing twist is the word of a new suitor in the mighty Bayern Munich, who do have needs in the middle of the park and are said to be looking at the promising Swede as an option.
While it would be ironic for Bergvall to spurn Tottenham for the mighty Bayern Munich if playing time is his main concern, Spurs fans do remember that Bergvall was already flirting with a historical European elite in Barcelona before ultimately choosing to move to North London.
When a club like Bayern comes calling, all logic goes out the window, and the lure of the club becomes an even bigger selling point. And if Bergvall feels something negative in the air about Roberto De Zerbi and his chances with him, especially with a bunch of new signings, he may see things the opposite if he clicks with Vincent Kompany and believes he will be one of those new incoming signings taking minutes at Bayern. So if Die Roten are interested, that may be another reason for Bergvall to push harder to leave Spurs. But just ask Joao Palhinha and Mathys Tel how Bayern worked out for them.
