Tottenham Hotspur center midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett is the new big topic around N17 with now three dazzling performances in preseason matchups for the club, and the Lilywhite faithful can't help but fall in love with his moxie and technical quality.
Luka Vuskovic got Sergio Ramos regen shouts last year in the preseason with dominant performances in the friendlies, and he went on to become one of the best center backs in European football last season for Hamburg. But there is something else about LWB that makes Tottenham fans even more enthused about him.
Maybe it's because he plays in the middle of the park and can express himself more freely and as an attacker, or maybe it is because of an honest quality that he exudes as a pure academy prospect that makes him fully COYS.
A legend is backing LWB
Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King was a great center back for the club in decades passed, and he sees that same unique greatness about Luca Williams-Barnett this summer, invoking the name of the club's greatest ever legend, Harry Kane, to praise the player and discuss his potential.
King said, via Chris Cowlin, "He's a talent. There's a lot of hard work ahead of him, but there's no doubt that he's someone with great ability. He's seen players like Harry Kane come through the academy and, through sheer hard work and determination, put themselves in a position to kick on. He couldn't have a better role model. There's no doubt we're excited by his talent and the next part will be up to him."
The 17 year old Williams-Barnett really does look like a special talent, and what Ledley King is saying about Harry Kane being that role model and example definitely rings true. Yes, Kane did eventually leave, but not before sticking it out and competing for big time silverware and establishing himself as the world's best striker - and it is not like pursuing glory abroad for Bayern Munich is any real betrayal of the Tottenham Hotspur badge.
Kane comparisons are obviously unwarranted in the very early days of Williams-Barnett's rise at the club, but that is not what King is saying. He is saying that, like Kane, LWB has a world of potential, but he also has that humilty and character of a true academy grad that will ensure he puts in the work to make sure he is an unmitigated success.
