Latest Fabrizio Romano transfer update should concern Tottenham fans

Spurs are seemingly sticking to their ’Premier League-only’ transfer policy.

This @szyexcl bloke is becoming an incredibly important figure in our lives. We don't know who he is, and how he knows what he knows, but the information he spouts is reliable, and he's going after the big dog, Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs are now moving towards completing their summer rebuild. Roberto De Zerbi will regard the overhaul of his defence and midfield as a job well done, with the club spending more than £230m to appease their powerful Italian manager.

Reports suggest there's yet more money to burn, and we're expecting at least two forward additions to transform an attack that suffered mightily in Mohammed Kudus' absence last season.

Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi is the priority striker target, but the waters are murkier in regard to our winger pursuit.

Sources disagree on Tottenham's winger targets

Fabrizio believes that Savinho very much remains at the forefront of Tottenham's thinking, and we have been on the Brazilian's tail for the best part of a year. However, little progress has seemingly been made this summer, with the club figuring out its defence and midfield first.

The Italian adds that Liverpool's Cody Gakpo is also on our radar, but the Reds haven't yet established whether they'd be willing to sell the Dutchman this summer. I know he's a Premier League champion, and a fine wide player, but I'd struggle to get excited over signing Cody Gakpo. I find him far too predictable and one-paced.

Anyway, hopefully we don't get to that.

While Fabrizio believes Spurs have rejected the chance to sign Rafael Leão, the aforementioned ’Szy’ understands that our Leão hunt is very much active. We've supposedly been in contact with the player's camp in recent days and are weighing up our options. Gakpo is not considered a priority target.

Leão is certainly more boom or bust than the steadier Gakpo, and he'll likely come cheaper than the Liverpool man. At his best, watching him is an utterly enthralling experience. However, consistency has been a major issue since he inspired AC Milan's Scudetto triumph in 2021/22.

Given the clarity with which he operated to sign Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, our current state of winger limbo suggests we don't yet have a clear idea who to prioritise. Savinho is up in Manchester absolutely begging us to seal the deal, but as I've said, that transfer has gone cold for the time being.
