Even though Harry Kane hasn't played for Tottenham Hotspur for a couple of years now, the England international will always be near and dear to the hearts of the fan base as a club legend and arguably their most talented ever player - and certainly one of the best all around strikers of all time.
Kane is coming off a historic season with Bayern Munich and the England national team, making it to the semifinals of both the World Cup and the Champions League while scoring an insane 73 goals in all competitions despite working the hardest of any striker in terms of even defending at a high level in his own penalty area and creating better from deep than most No. 6's.
During the actual 2025/26 season when people who pay attention to the games comment on the Ballon d'Or instead of using narratives ex post facto, Kane was viewed as the consensus No. 1 player to win the Ballon d'Or. It really wasn't even close.
Lamine Yamal is taking clear shots at Harry Kane
Now, all of a sudden, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe are shamelessly promoting themselves and using the media to create a discussion wherein they are competing for the award, and they are praising each other and leaving Kane out of the argument in order to manipulate the opinions of voters in order to take the discussion away from Kane.
While Yamal has mostly been careful to avoid Kane by name, he has been clearly directly talking about the Bayern striker in order to make arguments discrediting the very clear reasons why he is the leading Ballon d'Or candidate.
In an interview with Movistar, Lamine Yamal came off as an immature child again and tried to say that Harry Kane's 73 goals are irrelevant because they do not mean he is the best player in the world. Yamal said, via iMiaSanMia, "I think the Ballon d'Or should go to the best player in the world, period. Not to a player who's scored 80 goals, because when you score 80 goals, you get the 'top scorer' award for that. These are very different things that people aren't understanding. The best player in the world is the one that, as a commentator, you’re watching a game and enjoying - you see him and think, ‘He’s a player who is very different from everyone else.’. - When the award goes to the best, not the one who scores the most goals or the one who has won the most titles, then it will regain its true value."
This is one of the most embarrassing arguments of all time, and if Yamal actually thinks any of this is true, then he should be disqualified from the Ballon d'Or for a sheer lack of ball knowledge himself. Because Kane is "a player who is very different from everyone else". How many strikers make slide tackles in their own box to win the ball? Or make perfect passes from deep into the penalty area for the winger? And sure, goals aren't everything, but how can you dismiss 73 goals when it is a historic number only the two GOATs Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were reaching - and they won the award every season they hit that mark.
When the award goes to the one who makes the most noise in the media than rather the one who was the best and scored the most goals, then the Ballon d'Or should officially be destroyed and molded into a pacifier for players like Lamine Yamal. Someone give this man a bib, because he needs to grow up.
