Tottenham Hotspur hired Roberto De Zerbi with the intention of not only using the top Italian manager to save themselves from relegation to the EFL Championhip, but Johan Lange and Vinai Venkatesham were also sold on him as the best possible option to manage the club into the future as they look to build towards a new long term vision at N17.
De Zerbi has immediately paid dividends for Spurs, saving them from Premier League relegation while breathing new life into the organization. As top players like Manchester City winger Savinho and his former player Jan Paul van Hecke, center back for Brighton, strongly consider Spurs, De Zerbi's stock only grows.
Tottenham did a lot to convince De Zerbi to join, and Venkatesham and Lange have to feel vindicated so far, especially since many fans were critical and wanted Spurs to wait to reunite with fan favorite Mauricio Pochettino at a later date.
Roberto De Zerbi has convinced Micky van de Ven
Not only has Roberto De Zerbi kept Tottenham Hotspur up in the Premier League and is now attracting big players to N17, but he has also prevented some even more high profile stars from departing the club, too.
In an appearance on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, ace Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law stated that he would now be "very surprised" if Tottenham star center back Micky van de Ven were to leave the club despite rampant rumors at the end of the season, because Roberto De Zerbi has seemingly changed the Dutchman's mind on leaving with his positive presence and management skills.
Law said of Van de Ven's situation, “He seemed uncomfortable at the Club under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor."
That is the understatement of the year. Anyone would feel disillusioned under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor. They were awful, impersonable managers, and while Frank was the worst of the worst with his cowardly football, Tudor was honestly even less likable, with fans never forgetting how callously he treated Antonin Kinsky in that low moment against Atietico Madrid. And as time has proven, that was very much not Kinsky's fault either.
Micky van de Ven is a man revived under De Zerbi, and while Jan Paul van Hecke will technically be competition for him, he will also relish playing alongside his Dutch center back partner if De Zerbi and Spurs can indeed seal the deal for the Brighton star. Right now, Van de Ven isn't going anywhere, and Spurs fans can partially thank De Zerbi for that.
