Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for another active transfer window ahead. Their start to the 2025/26 season has been anything but idyllic, and as questions abound about Thomas Frank's competency as this club's manager going forward, Spurs instead seem prepared to double down on the embattled Danish coach.
What Spurs fans want to see is progress, and regardless of who manages the team in 2026 or 2027 for that matter, there are still upgrades to be made to the first team squad. And although most of those wishes from the fans focus on new attacking talents to upgrade the left wing and striker positions, there are a litany of other needs for Tottenham to address.
Chiefly among those is a deep lying playmaker. Tottenham are slowly but surely unearthing a long term gem in summer 2024 signing Archie Gray, who is finally earning starts from Frank. But as Spurs fans dream of a double pivot of Adam Wharton and Gray in 2026, Johan Lange and the Tottenham decision makers are currently looking at the bargain bin at prospects.
Tottenham are looking at a teenage midfielder
That well has yielded great results before, though, and Tottenham appear to be hoping to repeat the wonderful Lucas Bergvall trick in the middle of the park. According to a reply from top Tottenham transfer insider Paul O Keefe, 17 year old Belgian league midfielder Nathan De Cat is one player Lange likes, and while it is unclear how interested Tottenham Hotspur are at this early stage, O Keefe believes he is one to watch for the future.
De Cat is a total unknown at this point. He is a teenager who starts regularly for a good club in Anderlecht, which has a great historical track record for producing top Belgian talents. And as a country, Belgium have done a great job of producing young players, though it is very rare for someone to make a successful jump straight from the Jupiler Pro League to the Premier League off the cuff.
Bergvall made the leap from Sweden, of course, but he was a rare case and a special talent. Now, De Cat has been very, very good for Anderlecht at such a young age in a position where most teenagers wouldn't even get a lick. But when you compare him to, say, what Gray was doing for Leeds United, it's hard to see De Cat is doing anything that should make Tottenham leap up to sign him just yet.
