Tottenham Hotspur have not one but two needs on the wings in the January transfer window. They came into the window already wanting a goal scoring left winger to supplement youngsters Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert, and now with Tel forcefully demanding a transfer out because of Thomas Frank's incompetence - and with Spurs seemingly unwilling to fire the overmatched manager - their depth on the left wing could be tested further.
The right wing is now a huge problem, too. Tottenham sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, which was not the wrong move at all. However, with Dejan Kulusevski already injured for a while due to a serious knee injury, Spurs then lost their best attacking player and their only healthy right winger in Mohammed Kudus to an injury that will last until after the March international break.
All the while, the top Tottenham transfer targets on the wings have been falling off the board. Antoine Semenyo joined Manchester City, and then the top two targets from Man City became unavailable. Savinho was off the table due to an injury that will cost him multiple months, too, while star left winger Omar Marmoush has no interest in leaving the Citizens for the Lilywhites in 2026.
Tottenham could miss out on a winger to a rival
There is a third Manchester City winger whom Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring as well, but it appears he could be coming off the board himself. According to a new report from top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham's Premier League rivals Fulham, who embarrassed them this season, are "in talks" with the young right winger Oscar Bobb for a "permanent deal" worth around the 35 million pounds Spurs got for Brennan Johnson this window.
Bobb is a better player than Johnson, and he also has Borussia Dortmund very interested in his services. Tottenham have been linked here and there, but, by and large, they have not shown significant interest in him.
Now, Spurs missing out on Bobb would not be the worst thing in the world, since he is not a slam dunk player and is actually second best to Maghnes Akliouche in terms of young right wing targets Tottenham could sign while Kulu and Kudus are both out with injuries.
But Bobb talking with Fulham is still another potential transfer blow on the wings for a Tottenham side that is dangerously thin on the wings and unfortunately very slow to act on the January transfer market, especially with Thomas Frank's own future in a bit of a state of flux.
