Although Tottenham Hotspur have been incessantly battered with negative injury news this season, they are finally starting to get some positive updates trickling in. Ahead of Sunday's huge relegation six pointer against Nottingham Forest, manager Igor Tudor delivered a sea of great injury news to Spurs supporters, including that Mohammed Kudus will be back very soon and that James Maddison will be able to return before the season ends.
Lost in the shuffle, though, was a positive update on centr midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been out for a couple of months now with a torn hamstring. Initially, there were not many fears that the injury was serious, but then, all of a sudden, it was revealed that Bentancur had torn his hamstring and could even be in doubt for the 2026 World Cup for Uruguay.
Those worries, though, do not appear to be set to come to fruition. Because according to Tudor, as relayed by Spurs Army, Rodrigo Bentancur is "edging closer" to a return from his injury. Tudor did not get into the specifics of when he will get back like he did with Mohammed Kudus's injury, but perhaps he will do so when, like Kudus, Benta is only a week or so away from returning.
Rodrigo Bentancur is not far away
Regardless of when exactly the Uruguayan international will be back, Tottenham Hotspur supporters will be happy to hear that Bentancur is getting closer to returning and ostensibly doing well in his recovery from a serious injury.
Bentancur frustrated fans in the starting lineup, but he was usurped by Archie Gray, who has only grown in status under Igor Tudor. So now, Bentancur is key backup and a superior passer in possession than Conor Gallagher, so when he does return, he will be a key backup player and only take minutes away from the severely underwhelming Gallagher, who was actually signed by Spurs shortly after the extent of Benta's hamstring injury was revealed.
Tottenham cannot take for granted who will be healthy to close the season, as they have observed with all the losses this season. So it is huge to have Bentancur getting closer, and Spurs will need all hands on deck for this heated relegation battle with the likes of Nottingham Forest and West Ham United. Bentancur's experience and, when he is playing well, quality on the ball could prove to be quite useful in the relegation fight as the 2025/26 season winds down.
