When Tottenham Hotspur hijack a transfer, it's typically Everton who are done dirty. Historically grand, sure, but the Toffees are far from a European behemoth in this day and age.
Atletico Madrid, on the contrary, have teased an ascent into supergiant status for the past decade or so. The two-time Champions League finalists have been ever so willing to spend for the handsomely paid Diego Simeone, and they've been at it again this summer.
Atleti's spending has already exceeded €150m, and they looked poised to continue their busy window with the signing of Stuttgart midfielder Enzo Millot. The French playmaker is available for a modest fee despite enjoying an excellent season in the Bundesliga, and he was one of the four players I listed as a potential Morgan Gibbs-White alternative for Spurs to consider.
Well, it looks like Johan Lange is a Hotspur HQ enjoyer, folks. Who can blame hm?
Tottenham reportedly hijacking Atletico Madrid's move for Enzo Millot
🚨🇫🇷 Pending Confirmation: Within Stuttgart, everyone was a little bit surprised that Atlético Madrid hasn't closed the deal for Enzo Millot yet.

There is suspicion that there are other clubs with offers now, and the Premier League could play a role in this.@cfbayern pic.twitter.com/O3ed6RcStd
Atletico seemed to be closing in on Millot, who has a €20m release clause, but Matteo Moretto (via Atleti Universe on X) reports that an agreement has not yet been reached between the two clubs.
German journalist Christian Falk adds that Stuttgart are 'surprised' that a deal hasn't been struck. There's a sense that interest may be developing from elsewhere, with Falk speculating that a Premier League club could potentially stir the pot.
In regard to a Spurs hijacking, the reports are, admittedly, pretty tenuous. Estadio Deportivo suggests that Thomas Frank's showtime Lilywhites have 'entered the bidding' for Millot and are 'very serious' about signing the 23-year-old, who notched 11 Bundesliga goal contributions last season.
At this stage, we can't be too sure whether we're actually in for the French playmaker. It could merely be agent talk. However, if we were willing to spend £60m on Gibbs-White, there should be little hesitation in splashing a little more than £15m to bring Millot to N17, even if the Stuttgart star is allergic to his right foot.
The midfielder is a clean technical footballer who can play a myriad of roles in attack. "Positionless", you might say. His left foot is sumptuous, and he's come to the fore as a multi-faceted playmaker for a dynamic Stuttgart side over the past couple of seasons.
Finding a Gibbs-White alternative, given the Englishman's profile, is far from an easy task, especially with Chelsea moving for Xavi Simons. Millot currently isn't on the level of those two, but he'd be excellent James Maddison cover and able to provide solutions in other attacking areas.
