Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is still well liked around the fan base, though he can admittedly come off like a bit of a grouch when talking about the current club, particularly when it comes to the job that the managers are doing.
But Redknapp is just like the Tottenham faithful when it comes to new manager Roberto De Zerbi, as he is full of praise and optimism about the direction of the club under the Italian manager, who has Spurs believing again after saving them from Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor's best efforts to get them relegated from the Premier League.
Via Hotspur Lane, the former Spurs manager made a bold prediction, as Redknapp thinks that with De Zerbi at the helm, Tottenham will have such an immediate rebound in a full season with the new coach that they will go from back to back seasons in 17th in the Premier League to finish in the top five and returning to the Champions League.
Roberto De Zerbi has changed the atmosphere
Harry Redknapp said of Spurs and the former Brighton manager, "I think the manger is going to do a great job at Tottenham. He’s a winner, he’s enthusiastic, he wants to win, he’s on that touchline kicking every ball, I love him. I see them being a top 5 team again, I see them getting back into the Champions League next year.”
Any former Tottenham Hotspur manager or icon saying things like this is bound to get lapped up by the fan base, but Spurs supporters will especially take it to heart that Redknapp is so optimstic, since he is not afraid to call a spade a spade and was very critical of Spurs - and rightfully so - in the months before Roberto De Zerbi took charge
It speaks to how infectious De Zerbi's energy is, and you could tell from the way the players and fans were celebrating at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after beating Everton that something different is in the air around N17 with RDZ replacing Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.
Redknapp also hit the nail on the head in another way. Even though De Zerbi has not really won anything at the elite level, besides domestic trophies with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine, he has the mentality of a "winner" and you can see how much winning means to him. While Redknapp was not fully the same way, he knows what a top manager looks like, and fans would agree with him on that point, no doubt.
