Tottenham Hotspur were agonizingly close to being relegated from the Premier League, and while it seemed like everything from the refs to the injuries to the rest of the media and league rooting against Spurs was conspiring to send the Lilywhites down, Roberto De Zerbi came in and pulled this proud Big Six club back up. Spurs survived on the final Matchday of the campaign, and since then, there has been a buzz of optimism in the air not even seen under Ange Postecoglou, who was beloved by the supporters.
De Zerbi came into the Tottenham job with a fat salary, unprecedented power to make decisions, and a lot of skepiticism based on his controversial behavior and his highly publicized falling outs with Brighton and Marseille in his most recent jobs.
Now, though, Tottenham are all in on De Zerbi, who has brought in three huge names to the club this summer transfer window in Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes, nearly spending 250 million pounds on just these three footballers.
Tottenham can skyrocket in the table
There is an optimism in the air around Tottenham Hotspur, and former manager Harry Redknapp is continuing to feel it, visibly impressed with what Roberto De Zerbi is doing early on. As relayed by Chris Cowlin, Tottenham are moving Redknapp so much that the ex Spurs boss is predicting a Champions League finish for a club that has finished 17th in the last two seasons.
Redknapp said, They will finish top four, top five, no doubt!"
"No doubt". Exclamation point. That part of it really sells the prediction Harry Redknapp is making here, and while it is very bold for him to tab Spurs in the top four or five after being in the literal bottom four for two seasons in a row, when you look at the level of talent Spurs have and De Zerbi as the manager, it's really not a bad shout.
The Premier League was not exactly super strong at the top of the table with big clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea faltering, and Manchester United and Arsenal could be next to slide, too. Tottenham have a real opening here, and if they can finish off this highly promising summer transfer window with wingers and strikers who can find the back of the net for the chances Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, and Xavi Simons produce, then something special really should be brewing at N17.
