Tottenham Hotspur fans booed the living heck out of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who, once again, made a comedy of an error that proved costly to the team. Although Vicario has been, statistically speaking, one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League with a top five save percentage and post shot expected goals prevented, he's probably cost Spurs more points in the table than he has saved because of these errors that don't go down as bad saves.
Vicario was caught out in no man's land and jogged back like the game didn't even matter. And when Fulham inevitably took advantage of his amateur gaffe, Vicario behaved like a petulant child, yelling at Lucas Bergvall and his defense instead of taking some accountability for a very, very basic error that no actual top goalkeeper should be making multiple times per season.
Even though Tottenham fans are slowly starting to distrust Vicario, the former Serie A star at Empoli still has plenty of admirers in Italian football. That includes giants Inter Milan, who are watching Yann Sommer's abrupt decline before their very eyes.
Tottenham could flip Guglielmo Vicario
According to Italian transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan have been interested in signing Guglielmo Vicario in the past from Tottenham Hotspur. They could try to sign Vicario from them again in 2026, and if there is even a slight opening that Tottenham would be willing to sell and Vicario would be willing to go, then they will make a jump for it.
And on the flip side, if there is a small opening that Vicario could be sold, there are a number of Spurs fans who would want to see the team go for someone younger and better like James Trafford. The Manchester City backup joined from Burnley this summer after an amazing season in the Championship, but he was subsequently spurned for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
If Man City are willing to dangle Trafford or a similar player becomes available elsewhere in European football, Tottenham may try to flip Vicario for someone with more upside, leadership, and less mistakes in him.
The tough thing for Tottenham is the knowledge that while Vicario is capable of amazing highs and is a good goalkeeper, he just isn't trustworthy enough. He makes too many bad mistakes, and if Spurs want to compete with Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, then they need a goalkeeper on the plane of a David Raya, Donnarumma, or Alisson Becker who won't lose as many points (or more, given the fine margins of goalkeeping) as he wins.
