Tottenham Hotspur fans are anxiously awaiting the return of Dejan Kulusevski, who has been out for around 18 months after suffering a knee injury at the end of the 2024/25 season that was initially determined to be just a knock but ended up becoming so much more.
Kulusevski's recovery and injury status was initially quiet, but in 2026, a combination of Graham Potter of the Swedish national team and new Tottenham coach Roberto De Zerbi have proffered more consistent updates on the health of the Spurs right winger.
Everything seems to be going smoothly for Kulu as of late, and he has returned to a full practice with his Tottenham teammates. And now, his national team manager is already spitballing a timeline for Kulu's return to the side.
Dejan Kulusevski's return could be right around the corner
Graham Potter told reporters on Dejan Kulusevski's status, via SVT Sport in Sweden, "He is actually very close. I am so impressed with how he has handled his injury. We have to be careful with him. I hope he comes with us (September/October), but we have to talk to Dejan and Tottenham first."
Tottenham Hotspur have done a great job of managing injuries and player fitness since the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi, and he will no doubt continue to exceed the utmost of caution with Kulusevski, whom he has repeatedly called a "special" player.
But to hear Potter say that Kulusevski's return is right around the corner is incredible and not something Spurs fans anticipated hearing a few months ago when they were thinking the worst - that Kulu's career could essentially be over.
Kulusevski, though, is fighting hard and ostensibly recovering well. Tottenham probably should not push Kulusevski returning to the Swedish national team this Fall - or even as soon as the current month of September - but the fact that Potter is even putting it on the table when this conversation was nowhere near happening over the summer at the World Cup is such a great sign.
Tottenham fans are already thinking about the prospect of their new look attack with Kulusevski a part of it, as Spurs acquired Omar Marmoush and Savio this summer from Manchester City while taking a punt on long time De Zerbi favorite Mykhaylo Mudryk as a loan signing from Chelsea. Kulu, as he has shown over the years in Serie A and the Premier League, is one of those players who lifts the floor of an entire attack.
