Tottenham Hotspur legend Gareth Bale still has a lot of love around N17, and now that he is working as a pundit, both Real Madrid and Spurs fans have come to know him already as someone who is willing to give the honored and measured take about the players, coaches, and overall situations at his former clubs.
Roberto De Zerbi has come under a lot of fire at Tottenham already with a poor start to the 2026/27 season, and the media are hammering the Italian manager even more after Spurs 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the Third Round of the League Cup, neglecting the fact that for those who actually are watching the games, there are real improvements from Spurs to observe.
Bale is watching, and he is noticing those improvements himself. He recently said, via The Spurs Watch, that not only does he think Spurs will be OK, but that De Zerbi is doing a fine job as the manager, "Will Tottenham be okay moving forward? Yeah, I think so. A lot of new signings. Sometimes it takes time to settle in. The manager has shown he is capable of playing good football. I think he still has the trust of everybody."
Gareth Bale is not overreacting to Tottenham
There are so many pundits slagging off Tottenham Hotspur and Roberto De Zerbi, so it is refreshing to hear an actual accomplished legend of European football giving a real take on Spurs that isn't sensationalist or ignoring the context of what actually happens on the pitch.
Plus, Gareth Bale is still very well connected with Tottenham, of course, and his inkling that Spurs have the full trust of the manager is also important to note. Because while the external media is doubting De Zerbi and mounting the pressure on the new hire, there is zero indication from Tottenham themselvest that they are anything less than confident in De Zerbi's ability to lead the team going forward.
Now, De Zerbi does have to start getting results at some point soon, but Bale seems confident that the wins will come if the trajectory continues as it is. For the Spurs faithful who have been noticing the improvements, it is reassuring to hear someone of Bale's stature say that he, too, has faith in the process and is not raising alarm bells in the slightest. Tottenham fans will take that home with them as they look forward to the first win of the season vs. Aston Villa.
