Tottenham are preparing for their Premier League clash with Manchester City this Saturday, full of confidence, but one player faces a difficult challenge at the club.

Sergio Reguilon, once a standout left-back at Real Madrid and a key player during Sevilla FC’s Europa League triumph, has seen his career take a downturn.

Despite his early promise, the Spanish defender has not played a single minute under Ange Postecoglou this season, leaving his future at Tottenham in serious doubt.

Reguilon's decline in prominence began after his move from Sevilla, and while he showed glimpses of his quality during loan spells at Atletico Madrid and Brentford, consistent game time has remained elusive.

Last season at Brentford, he managed a degree of regularity, but his return to Tottenham has seen him slip back into obscurity.

Despite his efforts to prove himself, Reguilon has not been given opportunities in the current Tottenham setup, leading to frustration for the player.

With his contract set to expire in 2025, reports suggest that Reguilon is now seriously considering another loan move to revitalise his career.

According to reports from Fichajes, a return to Spain could be the most viable option for Reguilon, particularly given his strong ties to the country.

Getafe CF, managed by Jose Bordalas, have expressed interest in acquiring the left-back, either on loan or potentially on a free transfer next summer.

Getafe view Reguilon as an attractive option due to his experience at top clubs such as Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Manchester United. With his market value currently estimated at €12 million, the Spanish side are reportedly open to negotiating a deal that benefits both parties.

A career at a crossroads

Sergio's recent career trajectory has been marked by volatility. In the summer of 2022, he joined Atletico Madrid on loan but managed only 12 appearances.

The following year, he made a similar move to Manchester United, where he also played just 12 games before being cut short in January and returning to Tottenham.

With the January transfer window around the corner, he’s approaching a crucial point in his career.

Whether he heads out on loan or stays in London, his next move will be key to regaining the form that once marked him as one of Europe’s most promising left-backs.
