Tottenham Hotspur are set to welcome Morgan Gibbs-White as a new attacking midfield signing and have already rebuffed their front line with Mohammed Kudus on the wings, but there is still more work to be done, specifically when it comes to beefing up the base of the midfield behind James Maddison and, presumably, Gibbs-White.
But first, it looks like Spurs are going to clear out some midfielders they don't have a use for, sacrificing players who are not regular starters so that they can bring in a top-class No. 6 who can effectively anchor the midfield of a top-five team in the Premier League. (Tottenham fans are clearly eyeing Crystal Palace's young Adam Wharton for that job).
The chip to fall could be Yves Bissouma, who has long been tabbed as the most likely player to leave Tottenham this summer, especially since the other veteran sale candidate, Rodrigo Bentancur, appears to be well-liked by incoming manager Thomas Frank.
Bissouma has been linked on-and-off with clubs around Europe this summer, with the most prominent link being Fenerbahce, coached by former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese coach has also been eyeing forwards Richarlison and Son Heung-min from Tottenham.
Jose Mourinho is making his swoop
Per a report from ace Turkish footballing insider Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, who is like the Turkish Super Lig's version of Fabrizio Romano, Fenerbahce have now begun official transfer talks on personal terms with Bissouma.
Although the 28-year-old proved useful to Tottenham at the end of the 2024/25 season by stepping up in the knockout stages of the Europa League when the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski went down with serious injuries, that was the last hurrah for the former Brighton man and a way for him to leave Spurs on top.
Bissouma is running down his contract, nearing the age of 30, and has no real future with the Spurs project. He's an average backup on a team with ambitions to finish much higher than 17th, and Bissouma's lack of passing and technical quality were a big reason why Spurs underperformed as much as they did in the Premier League.
Fenerbahce and the Turkish Super Lig make a lot more sense for Bissouma, who can be a welcome engine in the room for Mourinho over there. Meanwhile, Spurs can make a few extra bucks and use that to spend on another upgrade, as they are finding with the likes of Gibbs-White and Kudus that the signings worth making in the Premier League all cost around 60 million pounds or so.
