Japhet Tanganga ended his 15-year association with Tottenham Hotspur this summer, after joining Championship side Millwall on a permanent deal, having seriously impressed there on loan in the second half of last season.

In an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, the 25-year old has opened up about his exit from Spurs over the summer: "Tottenham will always be my first home and will have a special place in my heart. I had already accepted the decision to leave and look for continuity, but the day of the farewell was still difficult.

And in fact, now I continue to follow them, I cheer for my former teammates, and I know that sooner or later they will return to a final and win it, they deserve it.”

The former England U21 international spoke about his tough time with injuries over the years

"Injuries are tough times for a footballer. You see the team training and you are still. I often wondered why my body kept falling apart, but even if it may seem strange, from my perspective they were gifts. Gifts of God.

Now I feel good: I returned to Millwall in the summer after six months on loan to feel like a protagonist. The fans are incredible, their love was a decisive factor in my choice. They sing at the top of their voices: it’s one of the most beautiful atmospheres in England."

No doubt all Spurs fans will agree that is great to see that Tanganga has found a permanent home for himself and is able to enjoy regular, not impacted by injury, football. Someone with England U21 caps as well as Champions League appearances is clearly not in the Championship due to a lack of ability, but rather a lack of fortune so far.

Let's hope that Tanganga can stay injury free, continue to develop and hopefully we will see him in the Premier League again at some point.
