Tottenham Hotspur finds itself in desperate need of defensive reinforcements as their January transfer window progresses with little to show.

Amidst the speculation, Paris Saint-Germain’s Milan Skriniar has emerged as a potential target.

However, the prospect of the Slovak international joining North London has sparked debate, with some experts questioning whether he is the right fit for Ange Postecoglou’s possession-based system.

Spurs supporters have grown increasingly frustrated as defensive frailties continue to plague their team.

The recent loss to Everton exposed significant gaps at the back, highlighting the urgency to secure a reliable centre-back before the window closes.

As rumours surrounding Skriniar circulate, speculation continues about whether he could be the solution to Tottenham's defensive woes.

Tottenham’s current defensive situation is dire. With key players sidelined due to injuries and a lack of depth, Postecoglou has been forced to rely on makeshift solutions, including the likes of Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin.

Despite their efforts, the defensive unit has struggled, with their shortcomings evident in matches like the recent 3-1 defeat to Everton.

Milan Skriniar, a 29-year-old defender currently at PSG, has reportedly been identified as a potential solution.

The Ligue 1 club is said to be open to letting him leave on loan, with Tottenham and Aston Villa among the clubs vying for his signature.

However, negotiations have reportedly stalled due to Milan Skriniar’s high wage demands, casting doubt on whether Spurs can finalise the deal.

Adding to the scepticism, Alex Barker of The Athletic has criticised Skriniar’s suitability for Tottenham’s style of play.

"I cannot think of a worse CB fit for Tottenham than Milan Skriniar. You think Dragusin is awkward on the ball and limits you in possession?" Barker noted on social media, pointing out that PSG manager Luis Enrique doesn’t even consider him a viable squad option.

Lessons from past transfers

Tottenham’s potential pursuit of Skriniar has also reignited discussions about their recruitment strategy.

The signing of Radu Dragusin has been deemed a misstep, with the defender struggling to adapt to Postecoglou’s tactical demands.

Experts warn that Skriniar, with a similar profile, could prove to be another miscalculation.

Although Skriniar has experience at the highest level, his compatibility with Tottenham’s high-possession approach remains questionable.

As the clock ticks down on the January window, Spurs must carefully weigh their options to avoid compounding their defensive issues further.
