Tottenham Hotspur seem to be closing in on a third signing in the summer 2026 transfer window in just the first week of June. Having already brought in free agents Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson, Spurs are focusing on two more big Premier League transfer targets in Manchester City winger Savinho and Brighton center back Jan Paul van Hecke.

Spurs must be working piece by piece to build the new squad for the 2026/27 season for Roberto De Zerbi, because after starting with two defensive signings, the closest addition they have lined up next is the center back Van Hecke (though Savinho does not seem far away from joining either).

With Van Hecke only having eyes for Tottenham at this point, @szyexcl reports that the third transfer offer from the Lilywhites to the Seagulls is coming down the pipe line. Spurs are prepared to come right around Brighton's asking price of 50 million pounds for the Dutch defender, as @szyexcl says that they are going to offer 45 million pounds plus an additional 5 pounds in bonuses as their next bid.

Tottenham are getting closer and closer

The Tottenham transfer insider adds that the deal is now at the "final stages" and that Jan Paul van Hecke himself wants to make sure he seals the final deal with Tottenham Hotspur before the 2026 World Cup officially begins this week. So it could be just a matter of days before Van Hecke to Tottenham is officially announced, pending Brighton accepting this very reasonable offer.

In fact, since Van Hecke only has one year left on his contract anyway, Tottenham fans are a bit nervous about overpaying for a 25 year old center back who, while good, is both older and not as exciting of a defensive force or all around player as Luka Vuskovic, who was loaned to the Bundesliga's Hamburg last season.

Still, Roberto De Zerbi is sold on Van Hecke, and Tottenham seem to want to sign established Premier League talent. And after missing out on Marc Guehi last summer because they did not want to pay too much for a player with one year left on his deal, only to watch the Crystal Palace rival join Manchester City in the winter, it appears Spurs do not want to run the risk of missing the boat over being too prudent again.

There are cases for and against paying for Van Hecke to this level, but any Spurs fan can agree that they would rather be serious on the market than do nothing at all after finishing 17th again in 2025/26.
