Tottenham Hotspur have been the most active team on the summer transfer market in the entire Premier League, spending 185 million pounds combined on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes to upgrade their midfield after already nabbing three starting caliber defenders. And to top that all off, they also added Martin Dubravka in goal to back up Antonin Kinsky, the latest starter to earn a better contract from the club.
But Spurs supporters know that there is still a lot of work to be done for a side that finished a lowly 17th in the Premier League these past two seasons, nearly getting relegated this past season. Spurs have yet to address gaping holes in the attack left by the two legends they never even tried to adequately replace, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
Although Spurs supporters are still waiting for the club to make a concrete approach for a striker with whispers of interest in Bournemouth's future superstar Eli Junior Kroupi, they have been linked to a host of wingers, most prominently Manchester City's Savinho with recent talk of Liverpool's Cody Gakpo.
Tottenham's top choice makes a lot of sense
Fabrizio Romano has been consistently stating that Savinho and Gakpo are the only two concrete options for Spurs, and he said something else interesting about the battle for the Brazilian international, even though there has been a lack of movement surroundin the player. Per Fab, the Man City man is the club's no doubt top option.
Romano said, as transcribed by Chris Cowlin, "The main names are Cody Gakpo and Savinho. Savinho is a top target for Tottenham. These are two players that are considered priorities for Tottenham in the winger position. It now depends on the negotiations - Savinho is number one, two and three... Tottenham wanted him a year ago!"
"Number one, two and three" is one of Fabrizio Romano's favorite sayings when a player is a club's clear top choice, and given how long Tottenham Hotspur have been after Savinho and the fact that he was one of the first names discussed when the summer 2026 transfer window opened, it is safe to say that this is the electric winger Roberto De Zerbi and John Lange want to bring to N17.
It is troubling that things have been so slow, and that may speak to Man City being more hesitant than Spurs had hoped this year, even with a glut of options on the wings like Omar Marmoush and winter addition Antoine Semenyo. But with Savinho's flirting on social media and Spurs wanting him the most, this deal has to get done.
