Tottenham Hotspur are coming off a brilliant Matchday 1 performance in the Premier League, blanketing newcomers Burnley 3-0 in a thoroughly commanding display that both highlighted the potential of a healthy Richarlison under Thomas Frank's management and the potential impact of new signing Mohammed Kudus.

But Tottenham need to have more ambition than merely cooking the Burnleys of the world. Their first hour against PSG in the UEFA Supercup was a clear glimpse of the potential Spurs have as a unit under Frank. The reigning Europa League winners maybe aren't so far off from Champions League contention.

Even so, Tottenham ultimately blew that game and lost in penalties, and a lot of that came down to a lack of difference-makers in the attacking end and a thin bench. Tottenham still need more quality players in the transfer window, and after James Maddison's ACL tear, their need for a playmaker has been magnified.

Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace is the hottest name surrounding Tottenham on the transfer market, and Spurs have been increasingly interested in signing the local London midfielder to upgrade their own unit before September rolls around.

Tottenham need this move more than any other

There's a lot of optimism surrounding a potential deal, and top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano just fed into that positive feeling around North London with his latest YouTube video report. Romano states that he expects a "here we go" soon for an Eberechi Eze to Tottenham transfer.

At this point, it would be a huge surprise if Eze isn't introduced as the next major signing for Tottenham Hotspur this window, and while Spurs should still go after more attacking help, specifically on the wings, signing a new playmaker like Eze is perhaps the most important addition the club can make before August ends.

That's because they don't have a top playmaker right now with Maddison injured, and even when Maddison was healthy, Spurs were still after another No. 10 in Morgan Gibbs-White after their earlier interest in Eze waned.

Eze is a proven commodity in the Premier League, and if Fabrizio Romano thinks that Eze is coming to North London to start for Thomas Frank and expects that deal to get his fabled thumbs up in the "here we go", then that's more than good enough for Tottenham fans to get their hopes up for the FA Cup winner's arrival. Eze alone won't solve every attacking problem at Tottenham, but it should go a long way.
