Tottenham Hotspur center back Luka Vuskovic has the potential to be a special player, and he showed it in just his first season at the senior level while on loan at Hamburg, earning plaudit after plaudit in the Bundesliga as arguably one of the top five players in the league for the 2025/26 season and an easy choice for the Team of the Season.
But because of his success, Vuskovic is getting a lot of advice that he needs to start immediately, and he is no longer interested in another loan at Hamburg to play with his brother - or a new loan anywhere else. He wants to either be backed as a starter for Spurs immediately or have the opportunity to start elsewhere.
Brighton have shown a strong degree of interest in Vuskovic since the talks for Jan Paul van Hecke began, and even though Spurs have rejected both their lowball offers of 30 million and 45 million pounds, it does not appear the Seagulls are done making approaches for the 60 million pound player.
Brighton are still going for Luka Vuskovic
Despite signing Pascal Struijk from Leeds United to play center back after his excellent season in 2025/26 with the Peacocks, Tottenham Hotspur still have to worry about Brighton plucking Luka Vuskovic away from them permanently.
That's because Fabrizio Romano reports that even after three rejected bids, Brighton are "not giving up" on the signing of the Croatian teenage sensation. They are still "pushing" behind the scenes and looking to engage in more talks soon.
Vuskovic clearly wants to play, but for Tottenham, the frustrating thing is that he could just as easily play without being sold to another Premier League club. And though Brighton finished higher than Spurs in the Premier League these past two seasons, Spurs are the ones who hired Roberto De Zerbi, won the Europa League in 2024/25, and have the bigger fan base and budget with the cachet of being a European powerhouse.
So Vuskovic's desire to join Brighton so strongly makes little sense, especially since he could play and come back; he does not have to compete with Jan Paul van Hecke right now, nor is he ready for that, based on some of the warning signs he showed for Croatia in their 4-2 loss to England.
Tottenham can still try to convince Vuskovic otherwise, but until then, they will have to keep holding off offers from Brighton. There was optimism Brighton were moving on after signing a starting caliber player in Pascal Strujk, but that is not the case at all.
