Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has alread pulled off one big signing for Spurs this summer transfer window in his former Brighton star Jan Paul van Hecke to start at center back alongside his Dutch national teammate Micky van de Ven, and he is also after two blockbuster midfield targets in English football now between Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United and West Ham United's breakout star Mateus Fernandes.
But after the signing of Van Hecke, Tottenham's biggest transfer saga right now might be centered around Croatian World Cup starter Luka Vuskovic. After his tremendous breakout season with Hamburg in a favorable formation and tactical setup for the teenager, Vuskovic thinks he should be starting for Tottenham - and he does not want another year of seasoning on loan, even though the Premier League stars of England exposed some of his flaws in the last World Cup encounter.
Brighton have been trying to get Tottenham to sell Vuskovic to them on the cheap after the interest in Van Hecke began, and they have not given up yet despite being rejected for their almost insulting 30 million pound offer for the young star center back.
Tottenham get another offer below their price point
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Brighton are not at all discouraged in their battle for Luka Vuskovic in spite of being rejected by Tottenham Hotspur twice already. Fab says that Brighton have now tabled a fresh transfer offer for the 19 year old standout, and their latest proposal is a 45 million pound offer that includes add ons.
Tottenham will soon make their decision after this latest upgraded offer from the Seagulls, but given reports that Spurs are after a more reasonable 60 million pounds for one of the Bundesliga's very best players last season, it stands to reason that this offer will be rejected, too.
And despite the bizarre - and rather unwise - pressure from his reps to have him starting for Spurs or sold with no in between and no loan deals, Tottenham do have all the leverage here. They do not have to sell Vuskovic at all, because he is under contract with them and has no real leverage to reject anything, other than throwing tantrums.
Tottenham hold all the cards here, and it feels a bit weird for a player who thinks so highly of himself that he won't do a loan to want to play for a notorious selling club like Brighton that badly.
