Although Thomas Frank has proven to be a considerable tactical upgrade for Tottenham Hotspur through four fixtures, even with the dreadful shutout loss to Bournemouth in mind, there is no question that Ange Postecoglou will forever live in the fondness of Spurs supporters' memories for his contributions to the club.
From the get-go, Big Ange had Tottenham believing in a Premier League title race again, and while those hopes faded pretty quickly as the 2023/24 season continued, Postecoglou did bring European football back to a Spurs side that squandered Harry Kane's epic 2022/23 campaign - and then watched him join greener pastures in Bavaria.
Postecoglou outdid himself by lifting the spirits of a downtrodden, buried-in-the-bottom-half Tottenham side and turning the thin and injury-riddled unit into Europa League champions for the first time in 41 years.
So Tottenham fans don't want to see Postecoglou's next stop being one that sullies his reputation or, worse yet, involves him going to a Premier League club that will both rival Tottenham and also run the risk of mistreating their beloved former manager. (Yes, that club in question is the Evangelos Marinakis-owned Nottingham Forest.)
Ange Postecoglou could move to a Bundesliga power
Well now according to a more concrete transfer report from elite insider Fabrizio Romano, Ange Postecoglou has two new significant suitors in European football. Romano says that Big Ange is "emerging as option" for Fenerbahce and Bayer Leverkusen, meaning he could replace former Manchester United managers Jose Mourinho (a former Tottenham coach, too) at Fenerbahce or Erik ten Hag in Leverkusen.
Mourinho's dismissal was another rather unfortunate one after Fenerbahce were eliminated by a much better team in Benfica, missing out on Champions League football. Basically, he was scapegoated by a greedy, indolent club that hasn't been relevant on the big stage in a while. Fenerbahce would obviously be a massive, massive downgrade for Postecoglou and nearly as bad of a landing spot as Forest from the perspective of Tottenham fans. It's preferable to Forest, for sure, but mostly because there wouldn't be the bitterness of having to face him.
Leverkusen, though, is intriguing. They quickly fired Ten Hag after management, players, and staff realized how dreadful and Draconian the egotistical fraud who sent Manchester United spiraling even worse is. Unlike Manchester United, Leverkusen are run legitimately and swiftly canned Ten Hag, rather than endure further embarrassment at his hands.
Considering Leverkusen produce many of European football's best talents, such as Florian Wirtz, and are great at reviving the careers of veteran players, like Granit Xhaka, Postecoglou joining their rebuild as a pressing-intense coach in a free-flowing Bundesliga would be an excellent move. Leverkusen were undefeated just two seasons ago, and while lightening is unlikely to strike twice, Die Werkself are a great place for Postecoglou to make an imprint and built an identity while competing at a Champions League level. And he'd be less likely to hurt Spurs fans there or be disrespected than at, say, Forest or Fenerbahce.
