Tottenham Hotspur have had the best summer transfer window of any club in the middle of the park, completely changing how their club is viewed on multiple fronts by shaking things up with the dual signings of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
Now, Spurs have such a crowd of quality in the midfield that Lucas Bergvall has been demanding a transfer - and he did so even before the Fernandes and Tonali deals were officially secured. Archie Gray, Conor Gallagher, and Rodrigo Bentancur fill out the depth at the base of the midfield.
Yet there is a chance Tottenham's business this summer may not be over, especially if Roberto De Zerbi wants to sign one more standout of the present and future to add a fourth top player to Fernandes, Tonali, and Gray and open the door for Bentancur (or less likely Gallagher) to go.
Alex Scott might be waiting for Spurs
Alex Scott is a childhood Tottenham Hotspur supporter and a top young midfielder in the Premier League coming off a breakout season of his own for Bournemouth, one of the central protagonists in the Cherries making it to European football under Andoni Iraola (who is now at Liverpool).
The 22 year old center midfielder is an excellent progressor of the ball and ball winner who could replace Bergvall's spot - and make the likes of Gallagher and Bentancur a mere memory. Now, the issue with pursuing Scott has been cost, as Bournemouth have been demanding a king's ransom for not only Spurs dream striker target Eli Junior Kroupi but also their breakout center midfielder.
However, Bournemouth are running into a bit of a snag. According to new information from Fabrizio Romano, Alex Scott and his reps have just told the Cherries that they are not going to accept the club's latest proposal for a new contract. Bournemouth are doing everything they can to keep Scott and are now actually open to including a release clause to facilitate a new deal and a transfer on their terms, but with Scott's latest rejection, Romano says top clubs around the Premier League are watching closely with no agreement.
One of those clubs has to be Tottenham. It makes too much sense to bring in a talented, rising U23 midfielder on a contract running low with a clear affinity for the club. Roberto De Zerbi wants quality players and players who believe in the project, and Scott checks off all the boxes. And if he isn't taking Bournemouth's offers, he is waiting for someone; it sounds like he might be waiting for Spurs.
