Tottenham Hotspur are coming to grips with the fact that Lucas Bergvall wants suddenly out of the club, handing in a transfer request to the Lilywhites behind the scenes during his 2026 World Cup campaign with the Sweden national team after watching Roberto De Zerbi and the club go all in for two established Premier League starters in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

Even though these two players do not play the same exact role as Bergvall, the 20 year old is starting to see the writing on the wall for his guaranteed playing time, and though fans would want to see more fight from him, there is a sense of understanding at his plight, given how poorly he was treated by Thomas Frank - and then how little he was able to play for De Zerbi in the midst of a tooth and nail Premier League relegation battle.

According to the latest information from Fabrizio Romano, Lucas Bergvall's representation have already "started talks" with other clubs as they explore the best landing spots for him next following Tottenham. Bergvall is said to be "open to discussions" regarding a summer transfer and has already "informed" Spurs of his "clear desire" to leave, per Fab.

Lucas Bergvall is moving on

All of this information from Romano makes a Tottenham Hotspur exit for Bergvall feel all the more real, and, at this point, it almost seems like he has one foot out the door already. So far, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are the only two concrete links. Bayern Munich may be interested, while Chelsea interested but may currently be thinking of other options for the No. 8 position.

Perhaps there is still time left for Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham to convince the top Swedish prospect to stay, but it seems like Spurs are not too broken up about his transfer request, which would then lead Bergvall to feel more vindicated in his decision based on the fact that the club don't really want him around that badly.

After all, the club never stepped in when Thomas Frank treated him like rubbish for the majority of the 2025/26 Premier League season, and Bergvall has no reason to trust that things will be better under De Zerbi, who barely spoke about him in press conferences and then never played him when he came in as the new manager. Bergvall is talking to other clubs, and he is ready to move on.
