Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make a big forward signing this summer transfer window, but if there is one target they are fully expected to sign this year, then it is Brazilian international Savinho from Manchester City. Although Man City were holding off on selling him last season despite likely not needing him - and he barely played for City in the Premier League even before they splashed the cash on Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the winter window - there has been optimism they will be open to a sale this summer.
The thing is, the Savinho deal has been surprisingly slow to get done, even though, again, many assumed he would be easy to sign and that Tottenham were making great progress. But half the will needs to be from Savinho, and although every signal is that he wants to go to Tottenham, including following the players and liking all the posts of the big moves like the Sandro Tonali signing, there has not been that real push yet.
Finally, though, it looks like it may be coming for Tottenham Hotspur. Because Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Savinho has just formally informed Manchester City of his desire to leave this summer. His goal is to get more playing time that he cannot get in the logjam at the Etihad so that he can develop further into a superstar player. Now that Manchester City have been formally informed, the decision is up to them.
Savinho gives his green light
Perhaps Man City are waiting for one more winger to join them in order to sell Savinho, which would be weird because, again, they had already signed Antoine Semenyo in the winter and were barely playing the young and talented Savinho anyway.
Tottenham have Savinho at the top of their winger target list, as Fabrizio Romano affirms, and, at this point, it does not appear there is another true No. 2, though Fab has himself whispered about Cody Gakpo being the other option in the past.
In all likelihood, unless if Mathys Tel really continues to push the envelope for Roberto De Zerbi and Johan Lange this summer transfer window, Tottenham are going to be in the market for two new left wingers, especially since Savinho is a left footer and more of a hybrid true left winger and inverting right winger - a position already well stocked by Mohammed Kudus and, if healthy again, Dejan Kulusevski.
