Tottenham Hotspur have already landed three players to beef up their defense in veterans Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson on free agent deals, as well as Roberto De Zerbi's old star pupil Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.
With Tottenham seemingly done with the defense, they have now moved on to the midfield, where the trio of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, and Adam Wharton figures to be the players they focus their attention on the most.
But in the meantime, Spurs have also felt out their attacking options. A striker would always be in order for Spurs, but, so far, the main name in the attack for Tottenham is one from last year's summer transfer window, Manchester CIty winger Savinho. The Brazilian should be more achievable this summer with all the changes at the Etihad, though progress on talks have been quite slow thus far.
Liverpool star lands on Tottenham's radar
Savinho is not the only name, though, as a new Premier League star has suddenly emerged on the radar after an incredible World Cup performance against Sweden for the Netherlands that served as a statement that he isn't overrated - and that maybe Arne Slot really is the problem at Liverpool.
Yes, according to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Liverpool left winger and attacking midfielder Cody Gakpo this summer, and they are among the clubs who are hoping to see if the Reds would be willing to sell the Dutchman after his disappointing season. Thus far, though, Fab says that Liverpool have not given the full green light on any Gakpo departure.
It is all up to Liverpool on what they want to do, but everyone knows Slot loves Gakpo. Plus, the 27 year old just scored some great goals in the World Cup and showed real quality in transition, and he has always been a difference maker for club and country, particularly when he was carrying the Netherlands at Euro 2024 and then in 2024/25 when Liverpool won the Premier League.
Gakpo is not the kind of prospect Tottenham usually try to sign on the wings, but Tottenham already have plenty of prospects. What they need is someone proven in the Premier League who can create chances and finish them off, too, and Gakpo has great end product.
Savinho and Gakpo are intriguing in that they are opposites. Gakpo can't beat a man but has oodles of technical quality with goals and assists. Savinho rarely scores or assists but is amazing at putting his defender on skates. It's an option worth looking into.
