Everybody knows the real reason why Tottenham want Randal Kolo Muani so bad

The move isn't as glamorous as first thought.

Tottenham is suddenly interested in signing Randal Kolo Muani from PSG. The French striker, who won a penalty and scored in the shootout during France's memorable World Cup loss to Argentina, is available for a transfer away from PSG this summer.

Last season, he went out on loan to Juventus. Given the arrival of Jonathan David on a free transfer, he may be surplus to requirements at the Old Lady this summer.

A report this morning revealed that PSG would prefer to include an obligation to buy clause. This may or may not suit Tottenham. However, if recent injury news is anything to go by, then they may not have a choice.

Beggars can't be choosers, as the old saying goes.

Randal Kolo Muani is Tottenham's short-term Dominic Solanke replacement

According to a report from The Sun editor Jake Sanders, Tottenham has suffered a serious injury setback. The injury to Dominic Solanke is worse than expected. He could face a serious spell on the sideline, and could even be forced to undergo surgery to rectify the problem.

So... That's the reason why Tottenham suddenly became interested in Randal Kolo Muani, then. While it doesn't entirely take away the joy of a deadline signing, it does feel less special knowing the sinister undertone.

No, Daniel Levy didn't just become motivated to gift Spurs fans a new signing selflessly. He's actually covering up for an injured player. Which, of course, it's fine. Spurs fans just need to know the context.

Look, at this point in time, there has been no official communication from the Tottenham media team about Dominic Solanke's injury. So, as far as we know, nothing is confirmed. We should take the injury source with a pinch of salt.

However, the timing does seem far less than coincidental. The move for Randal Kolo Muani at first seemed confusing, but now it makes perfect sense.

As we look ahead to the rest of the day, Tottenham must be quick to act. If they are sure that Solanke it out for a sustained period of time, then Muani is an absolute must-sign. There is no time for Levy bargaining, which very rarely works out, and instead, Levy must get the player.

It checks out for Thomas Frank, who still needs to decide his strongest front three, that Muani can play anywhere across it. Due to Solanke's injury, he'd slot in at center forward, but there are options to move Muani around if Solanke returns.
