Not counting the veteran free agent acquisitions of Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson, Tottenham Hotspur and powerful new manager Roberto De Zerbi acquired their first big target of the summer 2026 transfer window recently, paying a whopping 60 million euros to Brighton in order to secure the Italian manager's dream transfer target in center back Jan Paul van Hecke, who was his old star pupil with the Seagulls.

De Zerbi has not at all rested there, as he is going hard after two top midfielders in Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United and West Ham United's breakout gem Mateus Fernandes. Meanwhile, Spurs are still purportedly in active discussions to sign splashy Manchester City winger Savinho, who was one of their dream targets in the previous summer transfer window.

While all of this is going on, though, Tottenham do have to be wary about losing stars to potential sales, and although Micky van de Ven has been signing a totally different tune since Roberto De Zerbi's arrival, the Dutch international still has not formally put pen to paper on a new contract yet.

Micky van de Ven is still getting serious interest

Tottenham Hotspur are actively working to keep the former Wolfsburg man around N17, and they are hoping that signing his Dutch national teammate Jan Paul van Hecke will help seal him staying. But there are elite clubs who are not about to make the young man's decision any easier.

According to a report from Dutch journalist Mike Verweij of Telegraaf, the two elite clubs that have been most interested in signing away the Dutch national team starter from Tottenham, Liverpool and Barcelona, are still knocking on the door and very much interest in Micky van de Ven. They see that because Spurs and Van de Ven have not officially agreed to anything yet, the 25 year old center back is ripe for the taking with a good enough offer.

Tottenham are not going to be able to rest easy until Van de Ven is sealed on a new contract. Selling to Liverpool within the Premier League would be the worst case, but since De Zerbi has designs on competing in the Champions League in the future, selling the club's best planned starting center back next season with the futures of Cristian Romero and Luka Vuskovic totally up in the air would be a potentially catastrophic error. Liverpool's and Barcelona's interest in Van de Ven should only galvanize Spurs to get to the bargaining table.
