Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Tottenham Player Ratings: Xavi Simons leads Tottenham to the Round of 16.

Can we play in the Champions League every week?

Another very good performance in Europe saw both the creativity and solid defending we have been missing domestically.

GK Guglielmo Vicario

Enjoyed a quiet game. Was not tested due to a combination of good defending in front of him and little creativity from Frankfurt. Came out well when needed, particularly when a late couple of errors from Danso and Sarr could have given Frankfurt an opportunity.   Rating: 7

RB Djed Spence

After playing left back for most of the season, and left wing recently, Spence was moved back to his original position. Defended well, showed a willingness to take players on when going forward although perhaps turned back a few too many times rather than pushing on.  Linked up well with Odobert. Rating: 7

LW Destiny Udogie

A quieter game for Udogie but was another who was rarely tested. Still seems like he is coming back into form after his time out with injury. Will improve and get back to his best with more game time.  Rating: 6

CB Cristian Romero

An improved defensive performance than against Burnley last time out. Also continued to show his attacking ability when getting forward throughout and provided the assist for Randal Kolo Muani’s opening goal.   Rating: 7

CB Kevin Danso

Danso gave another consistent performance, again in for Micky van de Ven. Made some good runs going forward. Also put in the best cross of the match in the second half that really deserved a better result.  Rating: 7

CM Archie Gray

As against Borussia Dortmund,  Gray looked more comfortable in a defensive midfield role. His accurate passing helped us keep possession and better dictate the tempo of the game. Did get forward at times as well and we need to see this level of performance more consistently in the Premier League games to come.  Rating: 7

CM João Palhinha

Provided the strength we have been missing in midfield for the last few games with a typically energetic performance. Had an early chance to score and was involved throughout. Rating: 8

RW Wilson Odobert

One of Odobert’s better games, particularly in the first half and it was surprising to see him be the one to make way in the second half. Unlucky not to score with a shot that hit the post. Linked up well with Spence and provided a creative outlet, both on the right and through the middle. This performance following up his last outing in Europe gives optimism of his growth and potential.   Rating: 7

LW Xavi Simons

Positioned wide but played through the middle for much of the game, and it was great to see Simons get on the ball often. Was very involved with a goal disallowed, providing the ball in for our opening goal, and generally driving the team forward at speed. Looked creative and inventive throughout.   Rating: 8

AM Pape Matar Sarr

Often played in more forward role than we have seen previously and had a few half chances with shots on goal. Sarr seems more suited to play in the role occupied by Gray and Palhinha in this game, but he is adaptable and he covered a lot of ground. Passing, though, was wayward at times.  Rating: 6

CF Randal Kolo Muani

Still no Premier League goals but another Champions League goal against a former club.  Muani started brightly and, as has usually been the case, he was more effective when attacking from a wide position than through the middle. Faded in the second half but this was one of Muani’s stronger performances for Spurs. Rating: 7

Substitutes: Jun’ai Byfield, Dane Scarlett, Dominic Solanke

Solanke took his goal very well and has shown in the past few games how we have missed him leading the line. It was a bad defensive error to put him through but he still provided a clinical finish. Scarlett and Byfield were on late and were not involved too much, but it was good to see them get minutes. More of this for them and for other young players in the Premier League is needed, too. Ratings: Byfield (N/A), Scarlett (N/A), Solanke (7)
