Tottenham Hotspur are still pushing to sign their top two remaining transfer targets in Premier League Big Six wingers Savinho and Cody Gakpo, and while progress has been very slow, there are assurances that both players are still on the table for Roberto De Zerbi and the club.
Additionally, multiple reporters in England have made it clear that Tottenham intend on signing one more forward than the duo, because while there was speculation that Gakpo could be in De Zerbi's plans as a false nine to replace the struggling striker Dominic Solanke, Spurs actually want both Gakpo and Savinho as options on the wings and will target a true striker as a third separate signing. So far, only Folarin Balogun and Nicolas Jackson have been linked, but there is no specific striker Tottenham are in talks to sign at this point.
Tottenham still wanting to sign a striker this summer is indicative of how they feel about their current options, and while Richarlison is a player Spurs had been shopping in the past, he has shown up well this preseason and was easily the club's best option with a team leading 11 Premier League goals in the 2025/26 campaign. Like Everton before, Spurs would have 100 percent been relegated without the goals Richy put in.
Dominic Solanke is on the outs
Solanke, however, is the odd man out. Fans are increasingly placing the microscope on a player who cost them 65 million pounds in 2024, and while nobody had any illusions that he would be anything resembling an heir to the legendary Harry Kane, the fact that he was the chosen striker of Daniel Levy's after Kane's departure to Bayern Munich is telling.
Outside of purple patches, Solanke has been a disaster for Tottenham, and he seems to only play well against opponents that give him a lot of space. In the Premier League, Solanke is unable to scrap his way in there, and if Roberto De Zerbi were not allegedly such a big fan of his, then he probably would have been sold already.
Tottenham Hotspur could potentially carry three strikers again this year, but even if they do, Tottenham signing another striker can easily spell Solanke's doom in 2027 if that new face shines and Solanke continues to struggle, even against lesser opponents. Unfortunately, with how little Solanke played last season, Spurs fans may also point out that carrying three strikers is really just like carrying two with Solanke in the squad.
