Djed Spence became one of the biggest cult heroes in English football this summer with a grand perormance at the 2026 World Cup. He proved Thomas Tuchel 100 percent right for including him in the squad, even over Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold, by playing shutdown defense even against Lionel Messi, shining in the clutch by putting everything on the line defensively no matter which flank he played on.
While Spence's World Cup performances cemented his role in the Tottenham Hotspur side amidst transfer interest from the likes of Everton around the Premier League, it also encouraged a new caliber of team to show interest in the 25 year old left and right back.
Inter Milan have held significant interest in Spence, even negotiating with Tottenham over both center back Cristian Romero and the England national team standout. And now, Liverpool are being linked to the player, with rumblings that Spence continues to be open to a move.

Liverpool arguably need fullbacks more than Tottenham do after losing the declining Andy Robertson to Spurs and then star man Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid last summer. They don't have an established starter on the right, and even on the left, current starter Milos Kerkez is below a fully healthy Destiny Udogie and does not have as much long term upside as Spurs Brazilian gem Souza.
So Liverpool would not only give Spence the opportunity to get more minutes, but they are also only a year removed from the Premier League title and just hired the manager, Andoni Iraola, who led Bournemouth to the Europa League last season.
Tottenham Hotspur are realizing that they are beholden to Djed Spence and that he holds the cards here. If he wants to be the replacement for new Real Madrid stars Denzel Dumfries or Trent and play on the right side again, then Inter Milan and Liverpool are tailor made Champions League sleeper contenders for him to join. And while Spence loves Spurs and Spurs are massive, these would be even bigger opportunities for a player just entering his prime and coming off peak value with an incredible World Cup.
If Spurs can get about the same money they will be getting out of the unfortunately lowball Cristian Romero sale, then it will be hard for Tottenham to turn that down. Losing Spence will hurt the team in terms of offering unique looks defensively, but it's not like he helped them much last season while they were at risk of relegation.
