When we learned that it'd be Djed Spence up against Brennan Johnson down one of the flanks in Thursday night's friendly, every Tottenham supporter with a social media presence knew what was coming post-match.

Wales were searching for their first victory over neighbours England since 1984, but the Three Lions rendered the contest redundant inside the first quarter by racing into a 3-0 lead.

Spence, who made his international bow during the September break, earned his second cap at Wembley and saw plenty of teammate Johnson down Wales's right flank. England were utterly dominant ahead of their World Cup qualifier in Latvia, with the Spurs defender's performance garnering plenty of praise.

And there was only one way the confident Spence was going to cap off his evening...

Djed Spence lets Brennan Johnson know he's in the penitentiary

WELCOME TO THE DJED SPENCE PENITENTIARY, BRENNAN JOHNSON.

A quiet display for the Welshman amid Spence's presence allowed the Englishman to tease his teammate on Instagram post-match. A bundle of pictures concluded with a mock Grand Theft Auto V graphic of Franklin and his dog Chop, with Spence swapping Franklin's face with his and Chop's with Johnson's, implying that he took the winger for a walk on Thursday night.

"Very Happy to get my first England start with a Great Win. But forget about all that emotional stuff for a second .. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE THE INEVITABLE. LETS TAKE A WALK TO THE PENITENTIARY BROTHER," the defender captioned his post. Johnson is yet to muster a response. Not a public one anyway.

It's been a tough start to the season for the Welshman after his Bilbao heroics, but I have no doubt that he would've taken Spence's prison welcome in good spirits. It's just a bit of banter between pals. No need to stress over potential rifts in Thomas Frank's camp, and all that.

Spence, a standout one-on-one defender, certainly isn't bereft of self-assurance, and he's been adding wingers to his "penitentiary" all season. Not even Spurs youngster Damola Ajayi, who's on loan at Doncaster Rovers and faced his parent club in the Carabao Cup last month, could escape.

He's been excellent in 2025, and his ability to perform on his 'wrong' side came to the fore again on Thursday. However, from a balance perspective, the left-footed Destiny Udogie is required to start at left-back for Frank's side, and we've seen improvements as a collective in possession since the Italian's return to the starting XI. As a result, Johnson and Ajayi may have to wait a little while for new cellmates.
