Tottenham Hotspur have not seen star right winger Dejan Kulusevski since the end of the 2024/25 season when he went down with a knee injury that, at the time, had no indication of a devastating, career threatening injury. But as time went on, Kulu's absence was termed as being a knock to on the scale of weeks, then months, and now more than a year with no set timeline in sight.
Injury updates from Tottenham have been sparse to non existent, an the news that did come out of the Swedish national team camp and manager Graham Potter prior to the 2026 World Cup did little to assuage Spurs fans of a future that would include the former Serie A star in their ranks.
Kulusevski lately has been trying to quell these concerns with social media posts of him finally dribbling with the ball, and in his latest Instagram post, as relayed by The Spurs Web, he posted himself taking shots at the near and far post.
Dejan Kulusevski is slowly recovering
While Dejan Kulusevski looked good with his shots, Tottenham Hotspur fans had feelings beyond being happy with him hitting another early stage in what has been a prolonged and very mysterious recovery course.
Their concern is that the shots were all with the right foot, and while the right knee was the one Kulu injured and the player is left footed, some Spurs fans are worried that his knee is not strong enough to plan with power for left footed shots that will actually threaten Premier League goalkeepers.
But beyond that, Spurs supporters want to see footage of Kulusevski running, chopping, and showing some juice in his legs after the knee injury, because the worst thing about a bad knee injury for a winger like Kulusevski is how much acceleration it can sap out of a player. In history, we have seen the likes of Marco Asensio completely change as players after bad injuries.
It has been such a long time since Kulusevski played in a game that it is anyone's guess as to when he will be back or what he can do in the short and long term for Tottenham. But even just having Kulu in the squad in any capacity is a boost, and perhaps his game will have to change after the injury, but if he focuses on other aspects technically and tactically, he can still be useful.
On the whole, the positive here is that Kulusevski is dribbling and shooting again. He is sharing updates. He is no longer quiet. Something is improving, and while not enough has changed for many fans to feel assured, there are more reasons to be positive than negative.
