Defeat at Crystal Palace continued a concerning trend

A really poor look for everyone concerned

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs embarrasingly gave Crystal Palace their first win of the Premier League season, with an even more embarrassing display, that saw Ange Postecoglu's side have one shot after the 55th minute, despite chasing the game.

With that defeat, a concerning trend continued for Spurs. Their away form has been incredibly bad over the last fourteen games - which is a big enough sample size to be able to give an opinion on.

The results in these fourteen games are as follows; Brighton: 4-2 L, Manchester United: 2-2 D, Everton: 2-2 D, Aston Villa: 4-0 W, Fulham: 3-0 L, West Ham: 1-1 D, Chelsea: 2-0 L, Liverpool: 4-2 L, Sheffield United: 3-0 W, Leicester City: 1-1 D, Newcastle United: 2-1 L, Manchester United: 3-0 W, Brighton: 3-2 L, and Crystal Palace: 1-0 L.

There were red cards for Aston Villa and the second game against Manchester United in there, though in fairness Spurs were winning both of those games, and in particular against United it felt like they would have won the game anyway.

It includes a win over Sheffield United, who were one of the worst Premier League teams ever seen last year. A 2-0 defeat to a Chelsea side who soon sacked Mauricio Pochettino, a 4-2 defeat against Brighton who soon fell off a cliff under Roberto De Zerbi, as well as a defeat there from 2-0 up. Even the win against United is another team who have since sacked the manager.

Drawing 1-1 against a West Ham side who won four of their final 20 games to end the season, a 1-1 with newly promoted Leicester. Everton were in the middle of a run of three months without a win, when Spurs let them score a last minute equaliser.

Even the away form before then has context to it. Wins against haplessly relegated Burnley and Luton sides, a narrow win against Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace (though, their goal should not have counted), beating Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest, who in turn sacked him. The draw at Manchester City was credible, though even that was a tad fortunate.

Spurs were very fortunate to get past Championship side Coventry City in the Carabao Cup this season, and even Ferencvaros had enough chances to take something from the game in the Europa League. There is a serious sample of really poor away performances since the start of last season.

If Ange is going to achieve his renowned second season success, the away form must be addressed. Or simply forget it.
