Tottenham Hotspur supporters are sitting glued to their screens, waiting for the next blockbuster transfer update, because Spurs are technically after three highly coveted young Premier League players. Roberto De Zerbi has been pushing for Newcastle United star midfielder Sandro Tonali recently, and he is also adding West Ham United's breakout defensive midfielder Mateus Fernandes to his wish list. And then there is Manchester City winger Savinho, a man who has long been at the top of the list for Spurs in the forward positions.

Tonali appears to be the name closest to Tottenham at this point, because he is the one De Zerbi is going after the most. Not only are both natives of Brescia in Italy, but Tonali is also the caliber of player and leader who fits excactly what De Zerbi is trying to do in the middle of the park.

Fabrizio Romano keeps giving Tottenham fans reasons to get their hopes up that the club will be landing Tonali soon. He told fans again that a "deal is on" between Tottenham Hotspur and Sandro Tonali, and while that is very different than the fabled and as good as official "Here We Go", it is a clear sign that Tottenham are in a good position to get De Zerbi's main man for the midfield.

Tottenham should be quietly confident

Tottenham are reportedly confident in getting Tonali and are continuing to work on a deal, but, of course, they will need to get an official agreement on the player's side with the Italian international and then complete the more difficult task of agreeing to a final transfer fee for the player.

Arsenal had interest in Tonali quite strongly during the 2025/26 season, and after losing out on Eberechi Eze and even Thomas Frank's old Brentford favorite Christian Norgaard to the Gunners at the last second, Spurs need to be especially wary about Mikel Arteta and Co. coming in at the last second to make a swoop for the potentially world class Newcastle regista.

But as it stands right now, no team has been more outwardly interested in Tottenham, and the pull Roberto De Zerbi has could be the unique selling point that ultimately brings the highly talented Tonali to Tottenham in 2026. If Romano says a "deal is on" between player and club, then that means Spurs fans can expect to see more and more reports of Spurs getting closer to bagging their biggest signing yet.
