Tottenham Hotspur center midfielder Lucas Bergvall has made it clear to the club that he wants out and a permanent solution away from N17. With Spurs highly interested in signing both Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali as marquee transfers that will cost well over 150 million pounds combined, Bergvall is uninterested in being slammed down the midfield pecking order.

Rather than compete for a spot, Bergvall wanst a transfer, and while Chelsea no longer appear to be interested in the Swedish international, Aston Villa are not the only notable Premier League team involved in the battle for the No. 8.

Nottingham Forest have been linked to Bergvall, and now they have a clear need for him and a clear opening to sign him. Evangelos Marinakis and the club have just sanctioned a blockbuster 116 million pound deal to send breakout center midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, who had been dreaming of signing one of the Premier League's top No. 8's of the 2025/26 season.

Lucas Bergvall can get more playing time there

Worse yet for Tottenham Hotspur, in addition to reporting the deal, The Athletic's David Ornstein is relaying that the funds from the sale of Anderson will help Nottingham Forest sign Lucas Bergvall. Now that sounds obvious enough, but Ornstein further emphasizes that Bergvall is the chosen one that Forest have picked out as their ideal replacement for Bergvall.

Well, if Bergvall wants more playing time, the he will not turn his nose at a Nottingham Forest side that finished above Tottenham in the 2025/26 Premier League table and even blew them out 3-0 in March during the beginning of the Premier League relegation battle.

Nottingham Forest and Tottenham have a lot of recent bad blood, too, even beyond the results in the 2025/26 season. Spurs wanted to sign their star Morgan Gibbs-White last summer transfer window, but Forest fought the deal, even though Spurs had apparently signed MGW to a release clause in his contract.

So losing Bergvall and then watching him become a star on the level of Elliot Anderson would be a worst case scenario. Forest, though, are flush with cash, and if they offer a financial package and squad importance to the Swedish international's liking, Tottenham are going to have a very hard time convincing him to stay or even go elsewhere. Because at this point, it is difficult to envision the 20 year old sticking around; Spurs fans now can only hope he doesn't end up going to Forest and burning them.
