Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a new striker this summer transfer window. While Manchester City star Savinho is the only attacking player Spurs have made a formal approach for so far this summer market and would be a great addition to the team after a year of interest, Spurs need to sign a No. 9 who can bring goals to the table, too.
So far, only one player has been linked to Spurs from the striker market, and that player is the U21 Frenchman Eli Junior Kroupi, who, despite his youth, outscored all Tottenham forwards in the Premier League last season with 13 goals at the age of 19, which is a mark that puts him in some iconic company in Premier League history.
The problem for Tottenham, PSG, Barcelona, and the other massive clubs that have fallen in love with the Cherries most prized player is that Bournemouth know how good he is and are not going to sell him this summer. They are waiting for him to bust out in 2026/27 as a true star and may even ask 150 million euros for him next summer.
Tottenham are in the dark now
As if the universe needed any more reason to stifle Tottenham Hotspur's dream of a blockbuster striker for the next decade, David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported even more bad news for the Lilywhites. Per Ornstein, Eli Junior Kroupi is now injured and will have to miss the next three to four months with a foot injury that he sustained in preseason training. The 20 year old has just underwent successful surgery and will need that time to recover.
So with Kroupi injured, that totally takes him off the table as a transfer this summer. Bournemouth definitely are not going to sell Kroupi now that he is injured, which both hurts his immediate transfer value and, well, is just poor form.
That gives Bournemouth, Tottenham, PSG, Barcelona, and Eli Junior Kroupi himself an extra year to recover from this injury, have an even better season, and then regroup for a potential summer 2027 transfer.
For Tottenham specifically, Kroupi is not going to stop being a topic. He is clearly the No. 1 guy Roberto De Zerbi and Johan Lange are planning on long term, but now, in the immediate future, they do need a new No. 9 to start over Richarlison and Dominic Solanke; it's just entirely unclear who on earth that player is.
