Even though Cristian Romero makes a ton of money and has done very little to reward their faith as the captain of the ship in the worst season in club history, Tottenham Hotspur fans, by and large, have defended the center back quite forcefully this season from negative comments made by the media and others, as well as accusations internally that he does not care about Spurs.

Since Romero was hanging around the team despite not playing after suffering a season ending injruy and even had someone from the Argentina national team's medical staff come with him to London so that he could stay with the club, many Spurs supporters saw this as positive evidence that Romero still does care about the club. A previous few even took it a step further to say that maybe it should not be taken for granted that the defender will leave for Spurs for pastures anew this summer.

Well, it looks like all of that can be thrown out the window, because in a sudden about face, it appears the captain has abandoned Tottenham Hotspur in their hour of need and will not be around the club for a do or die final game of the season on Sunday against Everton in the 2025/26 Premier League relegation battle.

Cristian Romero turned his back on Spurs

According to a report from South American footballing journalist Tim Vickery in an appearance on talkSPORT, Cristian Romero will not be in attendance at all when Tottenham take on Everton, as he will instead be in Argentina to watch the final game of the season in the league between River Plate and Belgrano.

That is beyond insane, and while Vickery is the only reporter with his information, it is outrageous to think that Romero would dare leave North London with his current club's Premier League survival on the line and instead choose to watch a game in another league, regardless of how important that game may be - and it definitely, 100 percent, is not anywhere near as important as Tottenham vs. Everton this weekend.

This is a level of disrespect that is beyond intolerable and undoes any of the good Romero has done this season. It shows that as mcuh as he has been against the club's leadership for their awful management of Spurs and a low standard, Romero has himself been an embarrassment to the club as a captain with rash challenges, mediocre performances, laziness on the pitch, and a poor example off of it. At this point, Tottenham will be better off without the distraction of Romero, becaues this nonsense is not worth it.
