Cristian Romero just made his real thoughts on Thomas Frank crystal clear

Thomas Frank took a big risk when he joined Tottenham, and that's not spoken about enough.

Moving from Brentford, where he had the club culture on lockdown already, Thomas Frank moved to a completely uncertain club, with some players stuck at a loose-end.

That might seem dramatic to say for a club who only just won the Europa League, but it's for that reason that players were understandably dejected. From the players' perspective, it was a poor season, which ended with silverware because of A) their hard work and B) Ange Postecoglou's masterplan.

And Ange Postecoglou, after developing some close relationships with Tottenham players, was sent packing after the Europa League win.

Cristian Romero was an Ange Postecoglou favorite, and the Argentine can credit the Aussie for his development during that time period.

Cristian Romero made his real thoughts on Thomas Frank crystal clear

Romero was at a crossroads in his Tottenham career over the summer. It was a crossroads that was unspoken by the player, but with some of his beloved teammates, and an exceptional head coach leaving in the summer, was it time for him to leave?

Ultimately, Romero stayed, and he trusted Thomas Frank. Now, in a short period of time, Romero is reaping the rewards, and he has a great relationship with Thomas Frank.

Speaking before Tottenham's Champions League opener against Villarreal, a game which they won by a slim margin, Romero was full of praise for his new manager.

In his own words, Romero said: "I never said I wanted to leave the club. Nothing came from me in that effect. It is important what the manager and president say. I am very happy here, it is like a family. I like the manager. I like the way we work, the way we train. I am very happy here."

There it is - straight from the horse's mouth. That means a million times more than any tabloid talk would have you believe.

Romero is right. He never outwardly stated that he wanted to leave Tottenham. Fans understandably fell for the media speculation, as we so often do. However, a lesson should be learned here: unless a player says something directly, it isn't true (yet).

Romero and Frank are blossoming in a great working relationship right now, which is hardly surprising. Thomas Frank is known to be an easily likeable character, both on and off the pitch. We're excited to see how Frank and Romero build on these great foundations.
