Tottenham Hotspur have already confirmed the signing of left back Andrew Robertson as a free agent from Liverpool, and center back Marcos Senesi is another free agent addition who has basically been confirmed by the wider press core in world football.
Next up, Tottenham are hard at work trying to sign two young players and pretty significant names in the Premier League. Winger Savinho of Manchester City fame has been on Spurs radar for the past year, and now that Man City are open to selling after a regime change, it should only be a matter of a legitimate offer from the Lilywhites until they confirm the Brazilian international as one of their own.
Meanwhile, despite Luka Vuskovic's insane year on loan at Hamburg, Micky van de Ven's apparent desire to stay, and the addition of Senesi from Bournemouth, Tottenham are after another notable center back in Brighton star Jan Paul van Hecke, who has been on Spurs radar for at least a year - and is an old favorite of former Brighton and current Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi's.
Tottenham are getting closer to Van Hecke
According to the latest transfer update from Tottenham insider @szyexcl, Spurs are going to be making another bid to Brighton for Van Hecke shortly. Spurs only bid 40 million pounds the first time out, so they will increase the bid for a player who is apparently valued at a cool 50 million pounds.
Furthermore, @szyexcl says that the other half of the equation is almost solved. Because he says that Tottenham Hotspur and Jan Paul van Hecke are "close to agreeing personal terms", which would almost seal the deal since it would just be a matter of meeting Brighton's asking price - unless, of course, the Seagulls are willing to make like Fergie and meet Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange halfway.
Van Hecke is one of the best ball playing center backs in the Premier League, and although he has been one of the better overall central defenders in the world's biggest leagues for a few seasons now, he is still just 25 and seems to have untapped potential.
The Dutch international played arguably the best ball of his life under Roberto De Zerbi, so you have to figure that Tottenham think he can really explode with the upside to be borderline world class under the aggressive manager. With Senesi and Van Hecke in the spotlight, it's clear Spurs want to have the best ball playing center backs in English football.
