Tottenham Hotspur are sitting just one point above West Ham United in the Premier League relegation battle, and they can only hope that Roberto De Zerbi is able to have immediate success as the new Spurs manager and save them from going down to the EFL Championship.
If Spurs were to go down, there are a number of excellent young footballers who will draw interest from around European football. The big names like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven would almost be guaranteed to leave, and Spurs fans wouldn't be too upset about their biggest underperformers in the relegation battle leaving for some cash in return.
But what really worries Tottenham fans is the prospect of top young talents and future superstars who are buildling blocks of this club like Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and loaned center back Luka Vuskovic potentially exiting.
Chelsea will go back in for Lucas Bergvall
According to a report from Swedish outlet Aftonbladet's Daniel Kristoffersson, Chelsea and Aston Villa have not stopped their interest in Swedish international star Lucas Bergvall. They were both offering a mere 40 million pounds (barely more than what Spurs paid for Conor Gallagher that window, just to compare) for the young center midfielder. Tottenham Hotspur obviously rejected. However, they report that Chelsea and Villa, two teams competing for Champions League places in the Premier League this season, will be back in for Bergvall in the summer transfer window, especially should Spurs go down.
As if Tottenham needed even more motivation not to get relegated, losing a future world class talent like Bergvall is yet another reason to do everything possible to listen to Roberto De Zerbi's tactical instructions and stay afloat.
Losing someone like Bergvall for just 40 million pounds would be disastrous, and in the case of relegation, Spurs may even have to settle for less, especially if the Swedish star ends up being adamant about going to a bigger club that will have European football for the next two seasons.
Worse yet, a rival like Chelsea or a team that was competing neck and neck with Tottenham in the same places like Aston Villa signing Bergvall would be a worse scenario than, say, the biggest club in the world Real Madrid plucking him for themselves. Madrid showing Spurs levels is one thing and is acceptable, but Spurs going down and then watching Bergvall beat up on them at Chelsea or Villa at the next decade would be brutal.
