Bruno Fernandes could’ve been wearing Tottenham white in tonight’s final

Things might have looked different for Bruno Fernandes, if those six months before joining Man United had looked different from a Tottenham perspective.

Bruno Fernandes is now synonymous with Manchester United. Heck, he's even their captain, it doesn't get much more synonymous than that.

However, there was once a point in time where Bruno Fernandes looked to be heading in the other direction, to the South of England, London, to be exact.

Indeed, Bruno Fernandes was very close to becoming a Tottenham player before his Man United deal was signed. Now that the Europa League final is on the brink of being decided, those former transfer rumors are at the forefront once more.

Bruno Fernandes may have been wearing Tottenham white in the final

BBC Sport reveal that six months before signing for Man United, Bruno Fernandes found himself in a bad place mentally because he was utterly convinced he'd be signing for Tottenham, only for the deal to fall through.

So much so, he told the Sporting director to go away when told he'd remain in Portugal. For a deal to fall through at that stage, it must've stung.

Ultimately, Bruno Fernandes got his move to England six months later, when he signed for Man United. Now, he's a household name in Manchester, and one of the best players Man United has ever seen in this modern era.

The modern era isn't one to write home about for the Red Devils, but Bruno has been their diamond in the rough. Without him, it's scary to imagine where they might've ended up this season.

The Europa League final is not where they would've ended up, that we can say for sure. While it hasn't been a season to remember for both sides, they've somehow ended up with a shot at Champions League qualification and European silverware.

Either way, one of Bruno Fernandes or Tottenham will end up regretting that transfer never going through. Perhaps the Man United captain will watch those in Lilywhite lift the trophy, and ponder how his time might've looked different.

Bruno Fernandes will give his utmost to avoid that reality. After all, he already has one Europa League runners-up medal, so he won't want another. It's on the Tottenham midfield to isolate him and not give him a second to breathe.

There are nine hours left now until that ball is kicked off the center piece in Bilbao. Not that anyone's counting, right Spurs fans?
