Tottenham Hotspur's signing of Souza in the winter transfer window was overshadowed by the now criticized move for Conor Gallagher in midfield for 40 million euros, but in the long term, the addition of the Brazilian prospect from Palmeiras will likely be the most significant addition for the Lilywhites.

Souza did not receive much first team action in his first six months at Spurs, but he did impress with some starts in the early going, even under Thomas Frank due to Destiny Udogie's recurring injuries. And though Djed Spence has become a darling this summer with the England national team in their latest World Cup semifinal run, Souza had outplayed him when he was on the pitch.

There are high hopes for the teenage left back in Brazil, and according to a report from RTI Esporte's Wilson Pimentel, the Brazilian federation is already slotting in Souza for the 2030 World Cup. In order to prepare him for that and make him the successor to Douglas Santos on the left flank, the Brazil national team is thinking of giving him a start in September.

Brazil have high hopes for Souza

Tottenham Hotspur supporters could tell even from his few appearances for their club that there is something special about him, and he was touted at Palmeiras as the next big thing for the Brazil national team. Brazil used to boast amazing fullbacks like Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Dani Alves, Marcelo, and Filipe Luis, but the well has run dry, with the lack of options out wide hurting Vinicius Junior and the team badly in their early World Cup exit this summer vs. Norway in the Round of 16.

Souza has all the tools to become a world class left back and someone who can shore up that position for the next decade, at a minimum, for the Selecao. Brazil are already getting the ball rolling for the next World Cup cycle under legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti, and the fact that the U21 left back already figures so heavily into their plans is a great sign for both Souza himself and Tottenham.

Now, Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi have to start thinking about their own long term plans for Souza and his development. With Andy Robertson joining Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence still a part of the squad despite rampant transfer rumors, minutes are going to be scarce for Souza; he could be the next Luka Vuskovic on loan for them.
